Star Wars. Ron Howard ha diretto Solo: A Star Wars Story, ma prima di affrontare questa sfida ha preferito scambiare due parole con George Lucas, creatore della saga e suo amico. Il celebre regista – secondo Comicbook.com – ha dichiarato che George Lucas lo avvertì della tossicità del franchise quando fu ingaggiato per quel lavoro cinematografico.
Tossicità che non ha spaventato un regista di esperienza com Ron Howard, il quale ha colto al volo i consigli di George Lucas. Il suo amico e mentore gli ha praticamente consigliato di ricordare che i film sono per i fan, che bisogna avere il coraggio di ascoltarli, senza mai dimenticare di raccontare la storia che si vuol raccontare veramente.
Ecco le sue parole a Collider:
“It doesn’t happen on every movie with that kind of intensity, but it sort of goes with the territory when you have a really high-level intellectual property, there was a bit of that when I did [How the Grinch Stole Christmas] 20 years ago. George Lucas is a mentor, a tremendous friend. He warned me, and he’s always said, ‘It’s for the fans, yet you have to have the courage to hear them but tell the story you want to tell.'”
Il regista ha poi precisato che Lucas adora l’espansione e la sperimentazione. Infatti è sempre molto felice quando qualcuno cerca di andare oltre i limiti di Star Wars attraverso un film o una serie tv.
“He’s all for the galaxy expanding and experimenting. That’s what he prefers the most. He gets most excited about those that want to push the boundaries of a Star Wars movie or a TV show. And he always contemplated TV shows, he did animated [series], so I was sort of prepared for it.”
