Star Wars Episodio IX – L’Ascesa di Skywalker è stato affidato a J.J. Abrams. In realtà il regista non era destinato a tornare in questo ruolo, ma alla fine è stato convinto. Empire Magazine lo ha intervistato ed hanno parlato sia del nuovo film, che del capitolo precedente Gli Ultimi Jedi di Rian Johnson.
In molti sono convinti che Episodio IX stravolgerà quello che Rian Johnson ha fatto. Invece Abrams ha spiegato come si lavora con un progetto del genere.
Ha spiegato che non ha mai cercato di riparare nulla di quello che è stato fatto in precedenza:
“I never found myself trying to repair anything”
Poi ha aggiunto che se avesse fatto lui Star Wars Episodio VIII, avrebbe fatto le cose in maniera diversa. Così come Rian stesso avrebbe potuto avere un approccio del tutto diverso se avesse scritto e diretto Episodio VII – Il Risveglio della Forza.
Abrams, ha spiegato, viene dal mondo delle serie tv, dove si è abituati a creare storie di personaggi che poi vengono gestiti da altre persone. Quindi lui ha accettato di abbandonare ciò che aveva creato perché riteneva di lasciare tutto in mani affidabili. Così ha accettato che le decisioni prese da Rian Johnson, consapevole che sarebbero state diverse dalle sue. Oggi, ritornando al timone, ha fatto di tutto per onorare cosa è stato fatto in Episodio VIII.
“If I had done VIII, I would have done things differently, just as Rian would have done things differently if he had done VII. But having worked on television series, I was accustomed to creating stories and characters that then were run by other people. If you’re willing to walk away from the thing that you created and you believe it’s in trustworthy hands, you have to accept that some of the decisions being made are not gonna be the same that you would make. And if you come back into it, you have to honor what’s been done.”
